Athletistic / Figure skating. Russian figure skater Alexander Gallyamov shared his opinion on the performance of Russian athletes under the neutral flag at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“This is the second season that we have been left without international competitions. What will happen next year, the year after that, is completely unknown. Even if we are allowed to participate in the 2026 Olympics in some form or another, then, most likely, there will be only one quota in each event, and at the Russian Championship, where the selection takes place, there will be an incredibly tough battle.
We’ve played neutral before. Nastya and myself included, the couple competed under neutral flag at the World Championships and the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Everyone knows you are from Russia. There was an interesting incident at the awards ceremony: Anna Shcherbakova came out to receive a medal and was introduced as “Anna Shcherbakova, Russia”, but then they realized they had made a mistake and are corrected to “Anna Shcherbakova, ROCK”. There is nothing terrible in such a trip (under a neutral flag – Rating Athletistic) Personally, I don’t see it,” Lenta.Ru quoted Gallyamov as saying.
- Russian swimmer Minakov: “I am not ready to accept neutral status for the sake of the Olympics”
The IOC allows Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games with a neutral status and under certain conditions. It should be noted that athletes from Russia and Belarus can participate in the Paris Games only in individual disciplines, while team sports competitions will be held without the participation of these countries.
