Diver Elizaveta Kanso told she was not upset about the failed trip to the Olympics.
Russian divers will miss the Paris Olympics in 2024. None of the Russians are registered for the last qualifying start – February’s World Aquatics Championships in Doha.
— How much does it bother you that there hasn’t been an Olympic Games in your career yet?
— I had the opportunity to go to the Tokyo Olympics, but it didn’t work out. I took fourth or fifth place at the Russian Championships in 2021. But we know that there is always a chance, that there is a way out of this situation.
Am I upset that we are not going to international competitions? Yes. It’s a shame for children who grow up and don’t see this life and travel the world. I managed to travel.
It is believed that the Olympics are the main event in an athlete’s life, since they are held every four years. I participated in two world championships. I believe that at the World Championships there are many more athletes representing different countries, since that is where the selection for the Games takes place. Of course, I would like to travel more with adults. I hope I will have the opportunity in the future.
But I’m not upset that I didn’t go to the Olympics. There may be other alternatives. In any case, I’m not going to give up, I’m going to keep jumping. If I love this sport, why should I be offended? – Kanso told .
The FINA World Championships will take place in Doha from February 2 to 18. The Paris Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11.
As it became known earlier, Russian divers can only participate in international competitions in neutral status if they accept the conditions proposed by the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics).
