The national team coach believes that many players find it difficult to make the transition from U-19 to senior football
Head coach of the Ukrainian national team and new vice-president of the Ukrainian Football Association Sergey Rebrov believes that the tournament for U-21 teams should be resumed in Ukraine.
“My position is that I hope that we will bring back the U-21 championship. This is not only my proposal, my decision. We must talk to the clubs and resolve this issue. The U-21 championship is very important for the institute of national teams and for the transition year of the players, because after U-19 we lose a lot of players.”
Earlier, at the Extraordinary XXVI Congress of the UAF, Andrei Shevchenko was elected as the new president of the Association. Sergey Rebrov joined the new Executive Committee and became vice-president of the UAF.
The Ukrainian Youth Championship was held under different names from 2004 to 2021. After the end of the 2020/21 season, the championship was canceled, and U-21 teams of UPL clubs were allowed to take part in tournaments under the auspices of the PFL. The last champion of Ukraine U-21 was Dynamo.
