The miners achieved two victories in two sparring matches
Mentor Shakhtar Marino Pusic commented on the victory over Lehom (3:1) in the second control match at the training camp in Turkey.
“Overall, I’m very pleased with what we showed, except maybe in the first five minutes when we acted too rashly and made some tactical mistakes. However, we worked hard, were organized and did not concede a single goal in the first half.”
“So I think we did well: we scored twice, created a few more chances and played with high intensity with and without the ball. This was the purpose of the meeting, so I am pleased. In the second half there was the same energy, good organization, we created several opportunities. The opponent scored from the penalty spot – we were reckless at this point, but overall I am very pleased. So this evening I would give my team a 7.5 rating.”
“The main thing in sparring is game conditioning, I also wanted to see many aspects of ball possession, which we worked on. I saw a lot of those moments in this fight, and that’s good. Of course, not everything is perfect, because we train hard, there is still a heaviness in our legs, but the energy and mood of the team is what I want to see. And when you are ahead of your opponent in work, you have a chance to outplay him.”
“I would like to find the best, optimal combinations. I want to see how other players interact with each other. I’m always looking for pairs of players who work better together and exploring how I can use those qualities. Sometimes you have to change the line-up to attract other performers. The preparation period continues, I wanted to see other players in the game.”
In the first sparring in Turkey, Marino Pusic’s team defeated Pyunik – 2:0. Shakhtar has several more control games planned ahead.
Marino Pusic’s team will play in the 1/16 of the Europa League, where its opponent will be Marseille. In the Ukrainian Championship, the Miners are in fourth place, three points behind the leaders, but with two matches in hand.
