“I am not aware of Ustyugov’s detailed plans, he is an independent athlete” – Russian national team coach Sorin

Coach of the Russian national cross-country ski team Egor Sorine told that he did not delve into the Olympic champion’s training plan in detail Sergei Ustyugov but can help him if necessary.

On Friday, the press service of the Ugra National Team Sports Training Center reported that Ustyugov was nominated for the Spartakiad of the Strongest as part of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug team. This season, the 31-year-old athlete did not take part in the starts of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in cross-country skiing.

— How does he feel before the Spartakiad?

— I have no new information. As he had planned, he still plans to perform at the Spartakiad. We will only see his state of readiness at the Spartakiad. No one will talk about it except Sergei himself. If he makes the race, we’ll see.

— To what extent are you in contact with him now?

“I don’t get involved in the training plan at all, I just understand where he is, what places he trains. I do not know in more detail his training plan and his working methods. When he comes to us, we help him as much as we can, but in general he is an independent athlete,” Sorin told .

Cross-country skiing competitions within the framework of Spartakiad will take place in Tyumen from February 9 to 18.

Ustyugov is an Olympic relay champion (2022), a double world champion in 2017 (in skiathlon and team sprint) and winner of the multi-day Ski Tour in the 2016/2017 season.
