Leonova – about the injury of figure skater Simonova: “It happens in our sport, no one is safe from falls”

Former figure skater Alena Leonova spoke about the incident involving 14-year-old Maria Simonova, who hit the ice after falling during a competition.

Simonova performs in pair skating with Martin Breslavsky. The fall occurred during the execution of a short program of the junior competition “For the FFKM President’s Prizes”. Breslavsky was unable to hold Simonova and dropped his partner to the ice; during the fall, the skater hit her head. The athletes were able to continue the competition and complete their performance. On Thursday, the general director of the Moscow Figure Skating Federation, Nina Moser, told that Simonova had suffered a concussion and that the athlete would be released from the hospital on Friday.

“The most important thing about this situation is that everything is fine with her.” It’s the only thing that matters now. Why did it happen like this? It happens in our sport, no one is safe from falls and it is not a question of age. Such situations happen and are inevitable.

Professionalism and training play a key role here. What is the reason for this decline? I don’t know. I repeat that the most important thing is Simonova’s health,” RB Sport quotes Leonova.
