Honored Coach of Russia, General Director of the Moscow Figure Skating Federation Nina Moser explained what the procedure should be to respond to athletes’ injuries while skating.
— This week there was a terrible incident with Maria Simonova. What should be the procedure for responding to such situations?
– There is a chief judge. There is a referee who directs the competition. They are responsible for this problem. They see what is happening and make a decision. There are rules that must be respected in all tournaments,” said correspondent Moser.
Figure skater Maria Simonova, who was pair skating with Martin Breslavsky, hit her head on the ice during a tournament in Moscow. The incident occurred during the performance of a short program among juniors during the competition “For the President’s Prizes of the Moscow Figure Skating Federation.” Breslavsky could not hold 14-year-old Simonova and dropped his partner on the ice. The athletes were able to continue the competition and complete their performance, but Simonova was hospitalized. On January 26, the athlete was released from the hospital.
