Xie Shuwei and Elise Mertens became champions
Ukrainian tennis player Lyudmila Kichenok And Elena Ostapenko from Latvia lost in the doubles final Australian Open 2024.
The second seeds became the champions of the women’s doubles tournament Xie Shuwei from Taiwan and Elise Mertens from Belgium. The two-set match lasted an hour and a half.
The first game was entirely left to Xie and Mertens. In the second set, Kichenok and Ostapenko took the lead with a break, but did not maintain the advantage. Another loss of serve in the 12th game ended the match.
Kichenok and Ostapenko played together for the first time in the final of a Grand Slam tournament. Previously, Lyudmila won Wimbledon 2023 in mixed doubles.
Earlier in the women’s singles, the “neutral” tennis player Arina Sabalenka celebrated her triumph, confidently defeating the Chinese Qin Wen Zheng. The men’s doubles tournament was won by Rohan Bopanna from India and Australia’s Matthew Ebden.
