Merkushina’s failure cost the Ukrainian team a higher position.
On Sunday, January 28, the classic mixed relay took place in Brezno-Osrbli, Slovakia, on the last day of the 2024 European Biathlon Championships.
Ukraine was represented in this race by Vitaly Mandzin, Dmitry Pidruchny, Kristina Dmitrenko and Anastasia Merkushina, who took the final ninth place.
Mandzin, the first to race in this race, passed the baton in fourth. Pidruchny kept this position until his second shot, where he got a penalty loop and dropped the Ukrainian team to sixth place, and passed the baton to eighth.
Dmitrenko managed to improve the situation slightly, rising to sixth place, but Merkushina, who started the final segment of the race in seventh, failed in her first shooting range – three penalty loops and tenth position. As a result, the Ukrainian managed to play only one line.
The Norwegian team won the mixed relay, followed by France and Italy.
