The contract with the ex-Shakhtar winger was signed until the summer of 2025
Fluminense officially announced the signing Douglas Costa. The former Shakhtar, Bayern and Juventus midfielder signed a contract for a year and a half – until the summer of 2025.
The 33-year-old winger will wear number 90 at the new club. Earlier it was reported that he had already reached a verbal agreement with the Brazilian giant.
The ex-Miner left the Los Angeles Galaxy in October and is in free agent status. The Brazilian wanted to return to Juventus, but the Turin club considered it inappropriate to sign him. Subsequently, Douglas himself refused to move to Turkish Samsunspor.
Costa played for Shakhtar from 2010 to 2015. He has 38 goals and 40 assists in 203 matches for the Donetsk team. Together with Shakhtar, Douglas became the champion of Ukraine five times and won the Ukrainian Cup three times. In 2015, the Pitmen sold Douglas to Bayern Munich for €30 million.
Note that Costa has already become Flu’s sixth winter newcomer – after midfielders Renato Augusto (he, like Douglas, took part in the 2018 World Cup), Terance and Gabriel Pires, defender Antonio Carlos and goalkeeper Felipe Alves.
Fluminense finished seventh in the 2023 Brazilian Serie A. The new season of the Brazilian Championship starts in April.
