Ilya Malinin became the winner of the American Figure Skating Championships, which took place in Columbus.
Malinin, who was in the lead after the short program, received 185.78 points for his free program. In total, the 19-year-old skater earned 294.35 points for both programs. During the free skate, Malinin executed a quadruple axel cleanly.
Jason Brown took second place in the tournament (264.50), Camden Pulkinen third (262.33).
Malinin was born in the United States to the family of Russian figure skaters Tatyana Malinina and Roman Skornyakov. This season, Malinin won the ISU Grand Prix Final; last year he won bronze at the World Championships and won the United States Championships.
