Athletistic / Figure skating. European Championship silver medalist Artur Danielyan said women’s figure skating had been “put on pause” due to the non-participation of Russian athletes in international competitions.
“Of course, I watched the European Championships, followed Nastya Gubanova and worried about her. In principle, I follow the athletes who competed for Russia and now represent other countries. I also follow Adam Xiao Him Fa and Lukas Brichgi in the men’s category. “If Adam has already fulfilled his prize, then the others are only catching up. Men’s single skating is still progressing. Just like the women’s, but without the Russians, it is now on pause,” Danielyan quotes in Sport Day by Day.
In mid-January, at the 2024 European Championships in Kaunas (Lithuania), Belgian Luna Hendricks won the ladies’ singles skating event. Georgian Anastasia Gubanova, born in Togliatti (Samara region, Russia), left the continental championship with a silver medal. The leading trio is completed by another Belgian, Nina Pinzarrone.
All Russian figure skaters have been suspended from participation in competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) since March 2022 due to the events in Ukraine.
