The period of suspension begins on December 25, 2021
Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified the Russian woman Kamila Valieva for four years. The suspension is officially effective from December 25, 2021.
Let us remind you that the figure skater passed a positive doping test for the banned substance trimetazidine when she competed at the Russian Championship. The result was noticed by a laboratory in Sweden on February 8th.
Despite the positive test, CAS allowed 15-year-old Valieva to compete at the Beijing Olympics in February 2022. With her participation, the Russian Olympic Committee team won gold medals in the team competition in figure skating.
CAS has annulled all of Valieva’s results since December 21, 2021. The decision on the distribution of medals at the 2022 Olympic Games must be made by the IOC.
In February, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) formally filed an appeal with CAS, demanding a four-year ban be imposed on the skater. The anti-doping agency also demanded that her results be annulled from the moment she passed the positive doping test.
