Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev commented on the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to disqualify the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva four years for anti-doping rule violations.
The 17-year-old figure skater’s disqualification period begins on December 25, 2021. The figure skater is expected to be stripped of all medals won after that date, including Olympic gold at the team figure skating tournament and the World Championships. Europe 2022.
– It’s a difficult decision. I didn’t think it would turn out like this, although, of course, it was clear that there would be punishment. Our arguments were neither heard nor accepted. Four years of suspension, I think, is too much. In my opinion, Valieva and her coaches should focus on work, because this is Kamila’s future, this is her career. It seems to me that nothing is lost yet, there is still a chance. Another question: what are the reasons and arguments? We don’t know what really happened. For now, we are listening to different stories,” RT quoted Svishchev as saying.
Valieva at the Beijing Olympics helped the Russian team win gold in the team competition. Before the personal tournament, it became known that the banned drug trimetazidine was found in the doping sample of the figure skater of the Russian championship. The CAS allowed the Russian to participate in the individual competitions at the Games, where she finished fourth.
