Ukraine won five medals on the penultimate day of the World Games

Our team is back in the TOP-3 medal standings of the tournament.

The 2022 World Games continues in Birmingham (Alabama, USA), where the Ukrainian team is participating.

On the ninth day of competition, our team won five medals in three sports, including three awards with the highest standards.

Ukrainian Daniel Filchenko became the best at ski jumping on water skis. In qualifying, he showed the second result, but improved it in the final and became the first. At the same time, he showed his best attempt in the last jump, and before that Filchenko was second.

It should be noted that this is Filchenko’s second medal at the current World Games – a day before he took silver in the discipline of figure skating in water skiing.

Our athletes won two more medals in sports acrobatics. Bohdan Pogranichny and Daniil Stetsyuk were the winners of the men’s pair. They outscored the American duo by 0.2 points in the final. This is the first medal in this discipline for Ukraine since 2013.

Women’s team Victoria Kunitskaya, Alexandra Malchuk at Daria Pomyanovskoy became bronze medalists of the World Games.

In addition, Ukrainians won two medals in jiu-jitsu. Bogdan Mochulsky became champion in the weight category up to 62 kg (fighting). The Ukrainian won all the matches in the group stage, and then defeated the opponent in the final.

Bogdana Golub became a silver medalist of the World Games in the non-vaza discipline (weight up to 63 kg).

So far, Ukraine has 39 medals – 13 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze. This is Ukraine’s absolute record in this tournament.

Following the results of the penultimate day of the competition, our team returned to the TOP-3 of the medal standings, beating Italy and Hungary. Germany leads with 23 gold awards.
