Athletistic/MOK. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), in light of the disqualification of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, expressed the need to pay attention to the role of the environment of athletes in cases of violation of anti-doping rules.

On Monday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found Kamila Valieva guilty of consuming the banned drug trimetazidine and imposed a four-year ban on competition from December 25, 2021. The day was marked by a positive doping test result for the figure skater, then only 15 years old, and information about the offense became known during the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.

The IOC press service stressed that this incident and its circumstances highlight the need to pay attention to the role played by the environment of athletes in anti-doping matters. This is particularly true when it comes to minor athletes who are largely dependent on their environment.

  • The United States has announced that American figure skaters will receive gold medals at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
