Athletistic / Figure skating. Details of the consideration of the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne (Switzerland) have become known. The interests of the 17-year-old Russian girl were represented in this case by the national law firm BGP Litigation.
According to Sovetsky Sport, BGP Litigation specializes in corporate protection and was not previously known for its sports law cases. Interestingly, during the 2022 Olympics, Valieva’s interests were represented by the Swiss law firm Schellenberg Wittmer Ltd, with which cooperation ended in the spring of 2022 after the start of the SVO in Ukraine.
The day before, on January 29, it became known that Kamila Valieva had been found guilty of violating anti-doping rules and disqualified for four years. A positive sample was taken from the athlete in December 2021. Interestingly, the result of the doping test came the day after Russia’s victory at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing (China) in the skating competition artistic by teams. In this form of the Olympic program, Kamila Valieva performed in women’s single skating. Now, with a probability of almost 100%, Russian figure skaters will be deprived of medals.
