Athletistic/Figure skating. The German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung published an article on the four-year disqualification of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for anti-doping rights violations, under the headline “Victim of the Russian sports regime”.

“Young figure skater Kamila Valieva has to bear all the consequences of a doping case and receives a four-year ban. What about her coach, doctors and sports officials? Apparently, they continue to enjoy impunity in sport,” the article notes.

Recall that the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to disqualify Valieva was announced on January 29, the disqualification period begins from December 2021. All results of the figure skater’s performances during this period were canceled, which also resulted in Russian figure skaters being deprived of gold medals at the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.

  • The Kremlin said it was not making a decision to deprive the Russian team of Olympic gold because of the Valieva affair.
