The Russian team won the team competition in Beijing, but the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to disqualify Kamila Valieva due to an anti-doping rule violation led to a review of the results by the International Union of skating (ISU). Valieva’s points were deducted and as a result Russia dropped to third place, with the United States taking gold and Japan silver. Canada remained in 4th position, despite Valieva’s disqualification.
Duhamel expressed his dissatisfaction with this situation, pointing out that in other sports, the disqualification of one team member results in the disqualification of the entire team.
“They got bronze, which they didn’t deserve, because when a team member is arrested for doping, the team in all other sports is disqualified. And Russia still thinks it’s unfair? What is wrong with these people? » — wrote Duhamel on his page in X.
- The Kremlin said it was not making a decision to deprive the Russian team of Olympic gold because of the Valieva affair.
