Druzhinin on Bruenok’s statement regarding harassment of the coach: “I saw the correspondence, it is unacceptable”

President of the Russian Diving Federation Stanislav Druzhinin in a conversation with a correspondent, he called the tone of the correspondence between the coach of the Russian national team Pavel Muyakin and athlete Maria Bruenok inappropriate.

Earlier, 19-year-old Bruenok told Metaratings.ru that she was sexually harassed by Muyakin. The 61-year-old specialist invited Bruenok to his room, where he wanted to discuss the athlete’s training process, and then kissed her. The Russian Diving Federation told it had created a commission to conduct an independent investigation; Muyakin called Bruenok’s accusations unfounded.

“We are aware of this story and have established a commission to investigate the situation. I personally saw this correspondence, many saw it – my colleagues and coaches. Such correspondence is unacceptable for a teacher and coach. We will draw appropriate conclusions about why such situations occur in the national team. The fact that the young girl decided to talk about it is her right. Unfortunately, things like this happen in sports. We need to think about how to prevent such situations. The leadership of the coaching staff must also pay attention to this. We have already talked about this, in particular the reasons for personnel changes in our federation. It is surprising that the girl turned not to the head coach, but to her male personal trainer.

— Under whose direction will Pavel Borisovich’s athletes train from now on?

— There are other coaches in Tatarstan. Pavel Borisovich has great merits as a coach, but such things nullify everything and do not give him the opportunity to continue his professional activities. Although, of course, he is a very worthy specialist who devoted his whole life to this work,” Druzhinin told .
