Earlier, the International Skating Union (ISU) approved a new list of medalists for the 2022 Olympics team figure skating tournament in connection with the disqualification of Kamila Valieva for doping for four years. After the cancellation of Valieva’s results, the Russian team fell from first to third place, gold went to the Americans, and silver to the Japanese. Team Canada remained in 4th place. Since team tournament rules do not provide for such situations, Canada may file a protest against this decision.
“The team tournament includes separate disciplines, and as there are no regulations for the team tournament on this issue to our knowledge, the rules for the individual discipline should be applied.
Valieva’s disqualification for four years and Russia’s simultaneous retention of the bronze medal seems absurd. For the sake of fairness and justice, it is better to apply the rules of an individual discipline and give the bronze medal to Canada,” Tygart said in an interview with USA Today.
