The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) cooperated with law enforcement in the proceedings against the Russian figure skater. Kamila Valieva the organization’s general director Veronika Loginova told .
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules and invalidated her competition results from December 25, 2021.
“We have noted on several occasions that the powers of anti-doping organizations are not always sufficient to prove the involvement of those around athletes in the facts of their doping. RUSADA does not have law enforcement functionality and cannot carry out operational-search activities. In this specific case, we contacted law enforcement and cooperated with their representatives. However, in most cases our investigation is limited to voluntary participation and analysis of the collected information,” Loginova told .
Before the personal tournament at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, it became known that the banned drug trimetazidine was found in Valieva’s doping sample taken during the Russian Championship. The CAS allowed the Russian to participate in the individual competitions at the Games, where she finished fourth, but this result was also annulled. The athlete also lost the title of European champion, the title went to Anna Shcherbakova.
