Athletistic/MOK. The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, has called for stricter sanctions against those close to athletes accused of doping.

On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules and annulled her tournament results from December 25, 2021.

Thomas Bach emphasized that the decision in the Valieva case once again confirms that not only the athlete himself, but also those around him, play an important role in doping cases. He called on all anti-doping organizations to carefully consider the impact of athletes’ environments and ensure that sanctions also apply to them. Bach said he was convinced that when imposing sanctions, the involvement of the athlete’s environment must also be taken into account.
