“This is, overall, a manifestation of nationalism, total discrimination on the basis of nationality and a violation of the principles of the International Olympic Committee. Can we say that Latvia hit its athletes with this? Without a doubt. The IOC must respond in some way to what happened. This is a blatant violation of the rights of athletes who cannot independently complain to their government. Third-party organizations that monitor this process should provide feedback or contact the European Court of Human Rights,” Zhurova noted in an interview with RT.
Responding to a question about whether Lithuania and Estonia could follow Latvia’s example, the MP said: “It is entirely possible. It should be noted that even Ukraine at one time refused such an initiative, although it tried to present it, but the IOC reprimanded it,” Zhurova added.
