The head of the Russian Trampoline Federation, Nikolai Makarov, in a conversation with , commented on the receipt of neutral status by four Russian athletes.
Previously, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in tournaments under its auspices from January 1, 2024, subject to obtaining special permissions, without a flag or anthem.
On Friday, it became known that the FIG had granted neutral status to Russian trampoline jumpers Yana Lebedeva, Angela Bladtseva, Kirill Kozlov and Danila Kasimov. All four have already been added to the list of participants for the World Cup stage in Baku, which takes place from February 23 to 25.
“The main thing is that our strongest athletes compete on the international stage. The Olympic Games are for us an event whose conditions of participation cannot be accepted by our athletes.
FIG conditions are more acceptable and brought to our understanding, which is why we participate in their competitions. The main task is to allow our strongest athletes to enter the international stage and see where we are currently ranked.
— That is, they will take part in the qualifying competitions for the Olympic Games – the stages of the World Cup in Baku and Cottbus (Germany)?
– Yes, but we are not sure if we will be allowed to enter Germany. In theory, of course they should be allowed in. There will be other World Cup stages in the future, not just these. We do all this to support the athletes,” Makarov told .
The Trampoline World Cup will take place in Cottbus from March 22 to 24. You can qualify for the 2024 Olympics via KM stages until April. The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
