Lasitskene explained why she is not retiring: “My motivation is to continue jumping”

Olympic high jump champion Maria Lasitskene said she pursues her professional career because she enjoys staying fit and competing.

On Saturday, Lasitskene took second place at the Russian international winter competition in Moscow. Natalya Spiridonova won with a result of 1.93 m, Lasitskene cleared the bar at a height of 1.91 m and was ahead of Kristina Koroleva in additional indicators.

– One centimeter better than before. I should be happy to keep jumping, following the coach’s instructions and also trying, which is the most important thing. Now all thoughts are on the upcoming training. There are two more competitions before the season, including the main one – the Russian Championship. Everyone is preparing for it.

— Tell me, what is your motivation, why don’t you finish? There is Olympic gold, but we are unlikely to go to Paris.

— Motivation is just to keep jumping, doing what you love, trying to show results. I understand that not everything depends on desire, there are many different thoughts and factors. That’s why I do my best in training, I want to please the fans.

— Maybe you are like a mentor? Do you train girls from the area with you?

“The girls competing are excellent athletes, they are independent, they know what they want and what they are doing. This is a generation that also wants victories. “I wish them good results,” reports the correspondent in Lasitskene.

The Russian Indoor Championships will take place from February 23 to 25 in Moscow.
