Skoblikova on Valieva’s case: “At one time we didn’t even know what doping was. We ran and trained, without sparing our health.

Six-time Olympic speed skating champion Lidiya Skoblikova told that during her performances, athletes did not know what doping was.

On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules and deprived her of all awards won since December 25, 2021. The athlete’s suspension of 17 years led to a revision of the results of the team tournament of the 2022 Olympic Games, where the Russian team won. First place is now awarded to the American team, the Japanese are second and the Russians will receive bronze.

“I can’t say anything, because I don’t know if Valieva doped or not. We also don’t know who is to blame: the skater, the coach, the doctor. I can say that this is incomprehensible to me, because at one time we didn’t even know what doping was. They ran and trained, without sparing their health. I think our competent authorities will defend Valieva’s interests in court and seek justice,” Skoblikova told .
