European diving champion Nikita Shleicher told that the victory on the tower was special for him during the BetBoom Russian Cup.
Schleicher won the Saratov competition in individual diving on all apparatus (platform, 1 and 3 m springboards).
— In principle, I have never won individually on the tower in Russia. It’s a fantastic thing when you don’t train this apparatus, you don’t climb before a competition, you don’t collect a few jumps and you win. It’s something out of fantasy. I haven’t changed anything in the program, I’ve been skipping it for 7-9 years now. It’s just that in 2019 I stopped diving on the platform, the focus was on the springboard, I teamed up with Evgeny Kuznetsov, so the platform took a back seat. There are no more international competitions today and I decided two years ago to return to the stage.
— We don’t have the feeling that the tower is improving, because there is less responsibility towards oneself on this projectile, the emphasis is placed on something else?
– I understand what you mean. I work more on the springboard, and the platform is rather fun. I rarely climb it. I train in synchro with Alexander Belevtsev, about once or twice a week, that’s four jumps. I collect two jumps specifically during competitions. And this time it went well.
—Are you high?
– Without a doubt ! It’s a great pleasure, a real thrill.
— A topic came up with an invitation to a training camp in China. I want?
– I want. I talked about it before the International University Sports Festival. Then they said the Chinese were coming and I really wanted to jump with them. Now I am happy to have the opportunity to participate in a training camp in China. I would love to see how others train and how they perform. And not just on TV, but live,” Schleicher told .
