The former world champion previously predicted that the fight would not take place on time due to the fault of the “Gypsy King”
Former world super middleweight champion Carl Froch skeptically commented on the cut received by the WBC champion Tyson Fury two weeks before the fight for the undisputed title against the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world heavyweight champion Alexandra Usika.
“Tyson Fury took a stupid cut. He had previously received the same location from Otto Wallin. He was whipped during sparring two weeks before the biggest fight of his life. This is the undisputed heavyweight title fight we’ve been waiting for.”
“I’ll tell you what – I told you so. I didn’t think the fight would take place, and now it won’t take place. People will say: “Wait, Fury shouldn’t make excuses, he got cut.” Okay, that’s justified. But I haven’t seen this cut yet, I want to watch his latest interview to be one hundred percent sure.”
Indeed, Froch had previously suggested that the fight would not take place on the scheduled date. Thus, he predicted problems with Tyson Fury’s form due to violation of the regime during the holidays. Later, Karl called Usyk the favorite of the title confrontation.
The fight for the absolute title was supposed to take place in Riyadh on February 17. However, two weeks before the fight with Usyk, Fury was injured during sparring. The Briton’s injury required stitches, due to which Tyson will not have time to recover for the fight with Alexander.
The new date for the fight between Usik and Fury is May 18. The fight will take place in Riyadh. Any of the boxers (both Tyson and Alexander) is obliged to pay 10 million dollars in case of refusal of a full-time fight. The contract also contains a revenge clause.
The Ukrainian team is thinking about holding the fight on February 17. A possible opponent for Usik instead of the injured Fury could be the mandatory contender for the IBF heavyweight belt, Filip Hrgovic.
