President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov said he was in contact with the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics).
In January, World Aquatics announced that Russian athletes would not compete at the February FINA World Championships in Doha from February 2-18. Salnikov previously called the conditions imposed by World Aquatics for the admission of Russians to international tournaments unacceptable.
– In the conditions and demands that have been presented… Perhaps tomorrow everything will change. This, of course, is in the realm of fantasy, but there will be other requirements – there will be a different solution.
The situation is complicated. We have determined that athletes make their own decisions. We won’t push them here or there. For those who are not used to making such decisions, it is extremely difficult. We live in an evolving situation. We see what is happening in France. I admit that the Olympics may not take place.
The dialogue is ongoing. There are quite strict requirements that were determined for competitions under the auspices of the international federation World Aquatics, which did not allow us to participate in them. There is now a desire to take certain measures to avoid breaking ties.
Vicious circles allow some rabid people to rely on them, but common sense is not lost. There is hope that these conditions can be changed this year,” Kolesnikov said, as quoted by Komsomolskaya Pravda.
