Winter Indoor Rowing Cup ended in Moscow

The fifth Winter Indoor Rowing Cup “WINTER AAACUP 2024” was held on February 3 and 4 at the Basket Hall arena in Moscow.

The competitions took place on special indoor simulators. The Winter Cup of the Ageev brothers and Olympic champions Yuri Postrigay and Alexander Dyachenko in kayaking and canoeing brought together a record 800 participants, as in 2023. Athletes of the national teams of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, including medalists Olympic Games and World Championships, took part in the tournament, and Russia was represented by participants from 20 regions. The youngest participant is 11 years old, the oldest 67 years old.

Multiple Ageev Brothers Cup winner Louise Krass won gold in kayak and silver in canoe in the women’s first 2024 meter distance on the first day of competition. In the final of kayakers at a distance of 2024 meters, Vladislav Kravets of the Belarusian national team won.

— The 2024 meter kayak race was a success for me. The new simulators, in my opinion, are lighter than the previous ones. But in a canoe at 2024 meters it was very difficult, because the muscles were not used to such a long distance. Today I am in good shape. To do this I had to change my training plans a lot and work hard so that in the end it would be easier and faster to row at the Winter Cup,” Crass said.

The program for the first day of competition was completed with SUPERSPRINT distance races (200 meters) in different age categories. Among the canoeists, Leonid Pankin became the fastest in the OPEN category; among the kayakers, world champion Oleg Yurenya won the super sprint. In the women’s kayak super sprint races, European Championship silver medalist Alina Svita won, and Krass took first place in the canoe.

On the second day of the tournament, amateurs competed in rowing, and there was also a team race in the Student Rowing League. The tournament program was complemented by races at a distance of 100 meters. Krass won the canoe and kayak finals; among men, the winners were Vladimir Dubrovsky (canoe) and Nikita Byzov (kayak).

The V Winter Indoor Rowing Cup “WINTER AAACUP 2024” was held with the support of the Moscow Sports Department, the Russian Rowing Federation and the Moscow Kayak and Canoe Federation.
