The State Duma proposed that the FIS move the World Ski Championships from Norway after the comments of the mayor of Trondheim

Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev said the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) should consider moving the 2025 World Ski Championships from Norway after a statement by Trondhem Mayor Kent Ranum who opposed Russian participation in the competition.

Earlier, Trondheim Mayor Ranum expressed the position of the local government, which does not intend to allow Russian athletes to compete. Trondheim will host the next World Ski Championships.

— A strange statement from the Norwegian mayor. First, we still have to live until 2025, which is what we wish for Kent Ranum. If I were FIS, I would certainly think about it: maybe it is worth moving the World Championships elsewhere after such comments? A place where all athletes will be welcome, whatever their passport, skin color or religion.

Second, how does this person know what will happen next year? From what I understand, the FIS has extended the suspension of Russian and Belarusian skiers only for the 2023/24 season. It’s just amazing,” Svishchev said, as quoted by RT.

From March 1, 2022, Russian skiers will no longer participate in international tournaments under the auspices of the FIS.
