Sergei Kryanin, member of the Presidium of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), told that he considers Trondheim Mayor Kent Ranum’s statement regarding the participation of Russians in the 2025 World Championships to be incorrect, because the admission of athletes is done by international federations.
Earlier, the mayor of Trondheim expressed the position of the local government, which does not intend to allow Russian athletes to compete. Trondheim will host the next World Ski Championships.
– We have our own international competitions – the Russian Cup, the Russian Championship. The direction also goes towards the Spartakiades and the Universiades. We work according to the rules established by the international federation and do not deviate from them. But the fact that city mayors are already deciding whether or not to let us in is wrong. The international federations carry out the admissions and the mayors must implement their decisions,” Krianine told .
Since March 1, 2022, Russian skiers no longer participate in international tournaments; sanctions were imposed by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS).
