Former Chelsea goalkeeper Cech returns to Belfast Giants

The keeper will continue to play on loan from Oxford City Stars

Famous former Chelsea football goalkeeper Peter Cech returned to hockey Belfast Giants.

As before, the goalkeeper will play on a short-term loan from NIHL First Division club Oxford City Stars. Recall that Cech first joined Belfast in November 2023. The goalkeeper played one match, coming on as a substitute against Glasgow Clan (5:1).

Recall that in June 2023, Cech signed a one-year contract with the Oxford City Stars hockey team. The agreement is for the 2023/24 season.

Earlier in 2023, Cech took part in a charity hockey match of the Belfast Giants team against Kherson Dnieper. The match took place as part of the Ukrainian Hockey Dream program to raise money to help Ukrainian hockey players and coaches.

As a footballer, Cech played 333 matches for Chelsea between 2004 and 2015. Together with the Blues, the Czech goalkeeper won the Premier League four times and also won the Champions League in 2012. He also played for Sparta Prague, French Rennes and London Arsenal. He played 124 matches as a member of the Czech football team.

Belfast Giants are fourth in the British Elite League. Cech’s team will play their next match on February 10 away against Braehead.
