Organizers have canceled training sessions and are clearing the route.
Biathlon stadium in Czech Nove Mesto suffered from the storm. Start World Cup 2024 is in danger of being postponed if the track is not prepared in time.
On the night of February 6, strong winds destroyed and scattered banners, barriers and other elements of the route. A large amount of snow was blown away by the wind. The organizers were forced to cancel training on the track while the consequences were eliminated.
“We canceled everything. The stadium was damaged by bad weather all night and we lost a lot of snow. There is still a lot of work to be done,” said sports director of the International Biathlon Federation Daniel Boehm.
“Due to bad weather conditions (especially wind), the arena suffered significant damage. There is a lot of work to be done over the next few days to ensure suitable conditions.”
“The snow cushion is quite thick, and we have 50 thousand cubic meters of snow in stock. So the amount of snow is not a problem. But there is a lot of work to be done to ensure we get the conditions we want.”
The weather is reported to be warm in Nove Mesto. Temperatures of about +12 degrees are forecast until the end of the week.
The 2024 World Cup is scheduled to start on February 7. The competition will open with teams in the mixed relay.
