The Ukrainian champion is in a positive mood and does not express disappointment in the yet another postponement of the fight against Fury
WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik commented on the postponement of his fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion with the WBC title holder Tyson Fury on May 18th.
“I’m not disappointed. 18 is a great number. My son was born on January 18th. My mother was born on the 19th, my father was born on the 19th. 18 is a lucky number. All numbers are lucky for me. Great date, great day. It’s not a problem. I’m ready to fight any day.”
Let us remind you that the fight for the absolute title was supposed to take place in Riyadh on February 17. However, two weeks before the fight with Usik, Fury was injured during a sparring with Agron Smakichi. The cut Tyson received required stitches. British cutman Jorge Capetillo suggested that the Gypsy King would need at least three months to recover.
After this, the chairman of the General Authority of Saudi Arabian Entertainment, Turki Al al-Sheikh, announced that the boxing evening on February 17 in Riyadh has been canceled and purchased tickets will be refunded.
Soon, the unification fight for the title of absolute world champion in heavyweight received a new date – Fury and Usyk should meet in the ring on May 18. The event, as before, will be hosted by the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.
Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million. At the same time, the contract for the fight between the Ukrainian and the British has a rematch clause.
