Sanitra: Weather will be a strong element and will affect the result

The head coach of the men’s team has positive expectations from the upcoming World Cup

Head coach Ukrainian men’s biathlon team Juraj Sanitra shared his expectations for the upcoming 2024 World Cup, which will be held in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.

“In preparation in Brezno-Osrbli after the European Championships, all the athletes did their best to save this season, because we expected a little more. At the World Championships, I think there will be an opportunity to show that our condition this season is better than the results.”

“Nove Mesto has always been a happy place for us – we have always had some of the best results here. Therefore, I believe that happiness will be on our side again.”

“I can already say that the weather will be a strong element and will influence the result. Yesterday there was a strong wind, it was impossible to even leave the hotel, not only to be on the highway. This is such a small handicap for us: we arrived on Monday and planned to do two training sessions, but it didn’t work out. Those who will start in the mixed relay, one training session should be enough for them to be ready for the start.”

Let us remind you that yesterday the biathlon stadium in Nove Mesto was damaged by a storm. In addition, a significant amount of snow was blown away by the wind. It was reported that the start of the World Cup is under threat of being postponed if the track is not prepared in time.

If force majeure does not happen, the world championship will start tomorrow, February 7, with the classic mixed relay. Artem Prima, Dmitry Pidruchny, Irina Petrenko and Yulia Jima will run from Ukraine. The planned start is at 18:20 Kyiv time.

The 2024 Biathlon World Championships will be held in Nove Mesto (Czech Republic) from February 7 to 18. There will be 12 starts at the tournament.
