“At the start, I was ready to be compared to Alena, to a lot of criticism, including from me, from our couple. I was ready for that. If we compare with the beginning of the season, I try to progress, I continue to work. It’s clear that Alena has a very high level, but mine is lower. I don’t hide it. I just try to improve, to adapt, to work. So that it’s the same, so that it’s not like synchronized pair skating “It’s very easy to do. I try to ensure that we have modern pair skating with good choreography, but at the same time with synchronized interaction,” Kunitsa said, as quoted by “Championship”.
At the end of December 2023, the Georgy Kunitsa/Alena Kostornaya duo took 9th place at the Russian Championship in Chelyabinsk.
Since March 2022, Russian figure skaters have been suspended from participating in all competitions organized under the auspices of the International Skating Union due to the behavior of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine. Note that Alena Kostornaya competed in single skating until 2023, and in 2020 she became European champion.
