Athletistic / Olympics. Former Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko shared his memories of the country’s preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. February 7 marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of the 2014 Olympic Games.
“Did I understand that it is impossible to lose? Absolutely everyone understood this. The National Olympics, for the first time, the Winter Games are being held in a renovated Russia. We set ourselves many tasks, in addition to competitions. We had to revive both sports and some other areas of rural life of the whole society.
I personally understood that results were needed. I will not say that the sword of Damocles hung over us or that someone gave us a certain task: we must take first place. But everyone understood that the country needed a successful performance. The position of Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin, President of Russia – Rating Athletistic) has always been that you can’t go to competitions just to warm up. If you go there, of course you have to fight to get a good result,” Mutko said according to Match TV.
The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games took place on February 7, 2014 at the Fisht Stadium in the Olympic Park in Sochi.
