The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found no reason to reduce the Russian figure skater’s four-year ban. Kamila Valieva specifies the organization’s press release.
On Wednesday, the CAS published the grounds of the case against Valieva, who was disqualified for four years.
“The CAS panel recognizes that some may consider that a four-year ban imposed on a 15-year-old athlete in circumstances where it has not been established that she intentionally committed an anti-doping rule violation is harsh and disproportionate .
CAS carefully considered whether there was discretion to reduce the period of ineligibility. Since this sanction fully complies with the (strict requirements) of RUSADA and WADA, the majority of the commission members opposed the mitigation of the sanction, the press release said.
The 17-year-old Russian’s suspension period begins on December 25, 2021, and her results have been canceled since that date.
