Skier Ustyugov on his performance in the sprint at the Spartakiad: “I saw that I was going last and thought: “Wow”

Olympic cross-country ski champion Sergei Ustyugov declared that he did not have enough strength for the final of the sprint race at the Spartakiad of the Strongest.

On Friday, Ustyugov finished last, sixth, in the classic-style sprint final in Tyumen, losing more than 14 seconds to winner Alexander Bolshunov. The second was Sergey Ardashev, the third was Alexey Chervotkin.

— I’m happy with the race, but I’m not ready for the final yet. Preparation will improve from start to finish. The ending was sad and difficult. I looked around and saw if I was the last to leave or not. On the descent I counted and was surprised that it was the last one. I thought, “Wow.”

I’m not strong enough yet, but I’m happy to have reached the final. This means we are on the right track. There were a lot of fans, they supported me and encouraged me before the races,” Ustyugov said in a video posted on the Telegram channel.

The Spartakiade ski tournament takes place from February 9 to 18.

On Saturday February 10, the men’s and women’s skiathlons will take place. Watch the live broadcast of the women’s start from 8:05 Moscow time, the men’s start from 11:05 on TV channels “”, “Match! Arena” and “Match! Planet”, as well as on the sites matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru.
