Averbukh assessed the possibility of moving figure skating to a physical format

Olympic silver medalist in figure skating, choreographer Ilya Averbukh in a conversation with , he appreciated the idea of including figure skating in the Future Games and the number of physical sports disciplines.

The “Games of the Future” will be held in Kazan from February 21 to March 3. 277 teams from 107 countries will participate in the competition in 21 innovative disciplines at 10 sports facilities in Kazan and Sochi. The opening ceremony will take place on February 21 and the closing ceremony of the competition will take place on March 3.

— How would you assess the possibility of moving figure skating to the phygital format?

—Some things sometimes seem absolutely impossible, but after a while they become real and enter our lives. Today, the inclusion of figure skating in physical sports seems like science fiction. It’s hard to imagine any player being able to skate at a high level. And the public is hardly interested in seeing the guys perform double jumps.

But I am sure that the potential of physical sports is global. The most important thing is that Future Games is picked up and continues. Create clearer rules and structure for physical sports. I would like to see “Future Games” appear in the regions after the international “Future Games”. Phygital sports provide a huge boost to development. And Russia is the absolute leader here, ahead of the others.

— Will your ice show be part of the program of the opening ceremony of the “Games of the Future” in Kazan?

– I think it’s a useless story. A spectacular opening ceremony is expected. It will have many elements of a phygital show,” Averbukh told .

The “Games of the Future” will be broadcast on the channels of the sub-holding, as well as on streaming platforms.
