“There was no pumping. We agreed with the guys to just get high. Figure skater Soloviev talks team gold at Sochi 2014

The 2014 Sochi Olympics were revolutionary in many ways. So, for the first time in history, a team figure skating tournament appeared on its program. Russia, which had an excellent generation of athletes in this event, automatically became the main contender for gold.

This “teammate” gave the audience unreal emotions. We witnessed the motor renaissance of Evgeni Plushenko, the unforgettable debut of the piercing Yulia Lipnitskaya, the highest class of Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov.

Our dancing couples did not disappoint either. Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Soloviev performed their program superbly and brought important points to the team score. 10 years later Soloviev in an interview with in the conference room of the Russian Society “Knowledge” I remembered how it was.

— How often do you remember your victory? Does nostalgia strike from time to time?

— I am very lucky to have many different activities in my life. Especially now, there are many dynamic moments, many different directions opening up. In such conditions, there is no time to be nostalgic. But February 7 is an important date: the opening day of the Olympic Games in Sochi. It’s been 10 years, but even now I remember it – and I get goosebumps. Of course, there are memories of the Olympics and victory in my head, but I try not to look back, I only move forward, I strive to reach the top.

— Do you understand that you are not just an Olympic champion, but a gold medalist at the Olympic Games of your country? This is a unique achievement!

– Of course I understand. This gives us a reason to be doubly proud of our country, our athletes and the fact that the Olympic Games were held at such a high level! It seems to me that this level of organization will not submit to anyone. The main element brought to these Games was love for the project. I know it was born in 2007. Can you imagine how much time has passed and how much work, emotions and money have been invested in its implementation? It is great that this became possible thanks to a large number of people, including our President Vladimir Putin.

— You knew in advance that you would participate in the team tournament. Has this responsibility weighed you down or inspired you?

“I can’t say it was a pressure on us.” The team tournament was basically something new. It turned out to be very exciting. Previously, skaters did not come together to help each other in as organized a way as they do today. It is our common cause, our common medal. After the team tournament at the Sochi Olympics, all members of the figure skating community began to support each other with a completely different energy.

— What is your most memorable memory of this team tournament? After all, the brightest performances of Evgeni Plushenko, Tatyana Volosozhar with Maxim Trankov and Yulia Lipnitskaya amazed the whole world.

— I cannot highlight something specific, express one or more emotions. Everything was very family-friendly. We all gathered together, hugged each other and listened: “Come on, guys, show everyone who can do what.” ” At the same time, there was no pumping, it was said, “you have to do all your elements properly.” No, it’s simple: “Guys, let’s get high!” » With this ease with which we entered the ice, each of us showed everything we were capable of.

— Have you ever felt support at least roughly similar to what you felt at Sochi 2014?

– No! The strongest emotions come from the impressions, from the charge that was in the stands. When our athlete entered the ice, all the rooms under the stands and locker rooms began to shake. All the Americans, Canadians and Europeans looked at us with fear: “Are you sure the roof won’t fall on us?” We said, “Don’t worry, we built our own, that means everything is high quality.” » The support was second to none!

— Now you are probably returning to the Iceberg Olympic Arena, which saw the victories of the Russians. What feelings do you have?

— When I enter the iceberg, the thought immediately appears: “I am home.”
