Canada’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) said it is working with the national figure skating federation (Skate Canada) to explore the possibility of appealing the International Skating Union’s (ISU) decision regarding the results of the team tournament at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
At the end of January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva four years for anti-doping rule violations. The disqualification period begins on December 25, 2021. Valieva’s dismissal led to a review of the results of the 2022 Olympics team tournament, where the Russian team won. First place is now awarded to the American team, the Japanese are second and the Russians will receive bronze. Team Canada remained fourth.
On Friday, the ISU said the decision regarding the team tournament was based on a comprehensive expert assessment and was fully in line with the CAS verdict.
“We do not believe that the ISU statement provides any additional clarity or justification and continue to believe that Team Canada should receive bronze in accordance with the CAS decision.” We are working closely with Skate Canada to explore our options for filing an appeal,” said a statement posted on the Canadian NOC website.
