Protsenko – bronze medalist of the 2022 World Cup in the high jump

For the first time in his career, a Ukrainian won a medal at the World Championships.

Eugene (Oregon, USA) hosts the 2022 World Championships in Athletics, in which the Ukrainian team participates.

Following the results of the next day of competition, our team won the first medal. Ukrainian high jumper Andrei Protsenko succeeded here.

For the first time in his career, the 34-year-old athlete managed to win qualification and make it to the finals, even though he is participating in the world championship for the seventh time.

In qualifying, Protsenko cleared 2.30m, his best result of the season. However, in the end he enhanced his success.

He started at a height of 2.19 m and took it on the second test. Then he covered the mark of 2.24 m At a height of 2.27 m, Protsenko struggled – he only covered it on the third attempt.

After that, he took a height of 2.30 m on the first attempt, and he also took the next mark of 2.33 m on the first attempt. However, Protsenko failed to cover a height of 2.35 m, even though he used two attempts. He also tried to take a height of 2.37 m, but failed.

As a result, with a mark of 2.33 m, Protsenko became the bronze medalist of the World Championship.

It is also worth saying that Protsenko spent 40 days at work in the Kherson region, but managed to get out and get to the World Cup.

It should be noted that this medal is not only the first for Ukraine at the current World Championships and the first in Protsenko’s career, but also the first in the men’s high jump since 2015, when Bogdan Bondarenko became the silver medalist .

It will be recalled that the competition in Eugene began on July 15, and will end on July 24.
