Hanyu will announce his retirement on July 19

Double Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu at a press conference on July 19 will announce his decision to retire from the sport, reports Nikka Sports .

The event will take place in Tokyo and will start at 11:00 a.m. Moscow time.

We note that the 27-year-old Japanese wants to create his own show on ice.

At the Beijing Olympics, Hanyu finished fourth when he fell while trying for the first time in history to perform a quadruple axel in a free skate. After that, he missed the world championships with a sprained right ankle.

The Japanese is a double Olympic champion (2014, 2018) and double world champion.
