Protsenko: This medal is only due to the fact that Ukraine exists, that all Ukrainians worry about me

For the Ukrainian high jumper, this is the first open-air World Championship medal in his career.

Ukrainian Andrey Protsenko commented on his bronze in high jump at the 2022 World Championships in Athletics in Eugene, USA.

“Now the emotions are weaker, because I threw out a lot of them in the sector. The competitions started very hard, Achilles on the right leg bothered me a little, although there were no problems with it before. But slowly I jumped, found my rhythm, and the jumps went very well. I even hoped that I could take 2.35 meters, and in the future I decided to try 2.37 meters, ”said Protsenko.

“Emotionally, I approached the attempt at 2.33 very well, prepared and pah-pah – everything worked out both in the run-up and in the swing, everything was fine.”

“This is a very nice reward for the work that has been done in so much time. I have always dreamed of a medal. She is. I also wanted to compete for gold. I tried, but this time it didn’t work. This medal is only due to the fact that Ukraine exists, that all Ukrainians are worried about me. And also due to the fact that our state is strong and invincible.”

“I still have the stages of the Diamond League and the European Championship ahead of me. So far, I have not been invited to the stage in Monaco, but I hope that I will still be able to perform there.”

For 34-year-old Protsenko, this is the first medal in his career at the World Outdoor Championships. Andrey is the silver medalist of the 2014 World Indoor Championships.

It should be noted that Protsenko’s medal was the first for the Ukrainian team at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.
