“Virtu/Moir and Papadakis/Cizeron are couples that we can’t help but love” – Kolomenskaya

Anna Kolomenskaya and Artem Frolov, silver medalists of the Russian Ice Dancing Championship, named the couples they would like to emulate in world figure skating.

Kolomenskaya: I love Virtue/Moir and Papadakis/Cizeron – like I said before, they’re the kind of pairings you can’t help but love, you can’t help but admire. I can also add Meryl Davis and Charlie White. This is such a level! These couples have been skating together for a very long time, and this is also worth following as an example. Their way of playing, their way of presenting themselves… They are all different, but at least they have one thing in common: they are Olympic champions.

Frolov: I’m definitely closer to Papadakis/Cizeron, I like the style of their programs. It’s very difficult to ride, but I’d like to try something similar. It’s our second tango season – I’m already a little tired. I love this program, but I’m tired. I would like to radically change something, especially in free dance. I also like jazz and swing. We had a demo act, we performed in the show. At first I was surprised when they sent me the track “Polar Twist”, I listened to it and thought: “Damn, not a single sequence of the program will work here, we have to start all over again zero.”

Kolomenskaya: We organized a whole event in one day and went to the show.

Frolov: At first I was skeptical about this piece, I thought it was some kind of joke. And then, when it came to production, I really captured a kind of vibe, and I liked that.

Kolomenskaya: I can also add that Virtu/Moir also skated slow programs, it’s just that their most popular is “Moulin Rouge”, so everyone associates them with that style. Although they also ran slow and beautiful programs. But they skate, and the “chemistry” is visible between them; Papadakis and Cizeron don’t have that. They feel great, but as such they don’t have “chemistry” like between a man and a woman. That’s why Virtue/Moir is closer to me,” the “Championship” quotes the skaters.

Russian figure skaters do not participate in competitions organized under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) due to the situation in Ukraine.
