Maguchikh won silver at the 2022 World Championships in the high jump

The piggy bank of the Ukrainian national team was filled with another medal.

Eugene (Oregon, USA) hosts the 2022 World Championships in Athletics, in which the Ukrainian team participates.

As part of the next day of competition, our team’s piggy bank was filled with another medal – Yaroslava Maguchy won silver in the high jump.

The two Ukrainians won the qualification – in addition to Maguchy, Irina Gerashchenko made it to the final, but Yulia Levchenko failed to qualify.

Confident that Yaroslava started his performance in the final, breaking the bars of 1.89 m, 1.93 m and 1.96 m, Gerashchenko needed a second attempt. Then both Ukrainians covered a height of 1.98 m on the first attempt.

The 2.00 m height was taken by all four athletes who continued to fight for the medal. After that, the jumpers move to a height of 2.02 m, determining the winner and winner of the contest prize.

Elinor Patterson from Australia took the bar in the first try, Maguchyh in the second, and Gerashchenko and Elena Valortigara of Italy failed. Patterson and Maguchy then tried to jump 2.04 m, but failed to get it.

Thus, the Australian representative, who took a height of 2.02 m on the first attempt, overtook Maguchy and became world champion, and the Ukrainian won silver. Gerashchenko, on the other hand, stopped one step away from the podium, letting the Italian athlete continue.

Today the Ukraine team has the second medal in the current World Cup 2022.

Note that Gerashchenko set a personal record – he jumped 2.00 m for the first time.

Recall that the Ukrainian national team also won the first medal in the high jump – Andriy Protsenko took bronze.
