Olympic ice dancing champion Natalya Bestemyanova said that the figure skater Alexandre Samarin did not realize its full potential.

On Saturday, Samarin announced his retirement after performing his free program at the Spartakiad of the Strongest in Magnitogorsk, where he took last place.

“I can’t judge whether Samarin ended his career early, because he feels his body himself. To advance further, you need to practice a lot. Maybe Samarin was hurt.

Of course, it’s a shame. We love Samarin – a wonderful skater with his own style. It is impossible to confuse him with anyone. Samarin performed some interesting programs, surprising us with quadruple lutzes when almost no one had ever performed them. May God grant him success in his next professional career.

— Was Samarin able to fully realize himself as an athlete?

– I do not think so. I don’t know if this is due to psychological or technical problems. But it seems to me that Samarin could have won more,” Bestemyanova said, as quoted by Sport24.

Samarin is 25 years old, at the 2019 European Championships he won a silver medal in single skating and at the 2019 World Team Championships he became a bronze medalist.
